I'M HORRIBLE...WE'RE ALL HORRIBLE!

I am embarrassed...flat out embarrassed by some of my anchoring.

I fell for some of the most outlandish stories. Now granted, MANY in the media fell for some of the stories that were simply untrue.

After the Hurricane, we stopped thinking critically and acted like a bunch of sheep - falling for just about any sexy story.

For instance - "10,000 dead".

Do you know how many times we floated that number? Now, granted, it was based on this and Mayor Ray Nagin kept screaming "10,000 dead" and Senator Vitter even said "the number will likely be in the thousands". But still - journalists should never just regurgitate a number, or for that matter - a story, without a basis in fact.

I remember specifically saying "we've had reports of widespread rape and murder in the Superdome" or how about this one, said by yours truly, "where are the police when we are getting reports of a 7-year-old gang-raped and then throat-slashed?" Legitimate question on my part, but the problem was - it never happened!

I know I am asking myself several questions post Katrina. I just hope my fellow colleagues are doing the same.
