MAYOR WONKA

It's been nearly two months since I have blogged. Some of the many excuses include: Holidays, work, laziness, stocking up on chicken bouillon cubs...you know, the normal stuff.

But this has prompted a return.

Chocolate City...God is punishing Louisiana...Imaginary conversations with Martin Luther King, Junior...folks, you just can't make this stuff up!

Just when you think Ray Nagin has gone over the edge, he pulls himself back, says "Psyche" with one of those silly little grins, and then jumps again.

However, this time - just like the time when you were 15, in your Dad's car, yanked on the emergency break during a rainstorm going 30 mph - there's no going back. You're left to spin - violently.

In fact, that's a perfect analogy. Why? Because I did that - (yank on the emergency break, not refer to my hometown as "chocolate") and I tell you - once you yank on that emergency break and your car finally settles, you ask yourself, "What, in the name of Bill Buckner, was I thinking?" I honestly think Nagin is asking himself the same question (maybe without the obscure baseball reference).

Chris Rose has the funniest take on the Chocolate City comment.

You can buy a Willy NaginChocolate Factory T-shirt here.

And apparently, Nagin has angered pretty-boy-overrated Anderson Cooper. (Funny clip - even though CNN looks incredibly arrogant and out of touch. Hint to angry CNN producer: He doesn't want to do your show because no one is watching!)

Random thoughts...

  • What are the old people in New Orleans? Chocolate covered raisins?
  • I guess Easter candy won't be a problem.
  • Wouldn't the New Orleans heat be too much for the chocolate?
  • Canniabalism is now a tasty option.
  • How much foil will it take to wrap a New Orleans resident in one of those Hersey's Kiss things?
  • Look to the cookie, Elaine - look to the cookie!
  • More ovaltine please...oops, maybe not.
And finally - how about this random piece of trivia. Actor Gene Wilder (the original Willy Wonka) was born June 11th 1933. 23 years later on June 11th, 1956 Ray Nagin was born. Like I said, you couldn't make it up!
